The Alice Springs Running Festival is Back... 20th July 2025
Experience the thrill of running in the Red Centre.
With three key events: the 10km run and walk, the Half-Marathon Run and walk, and the Marathon, there's a distance for everyone.
The Alice Springs Marathon has been held yearly since The Alice Springs Running & Walking Club's inception in 1979. The Marathon was recognised nationally and internationally as an extremely friendly and well-organised event, attracting interstate and international competitors and local entrants.
2018 was the last time the event was held.
2025 will bring the return of this genuinely well-regarded marathon to Australia's running calendar. We look forward to bringing this event with a renewed vision for 2025 and the future.
Which Distance Is For You?
Marathon
Starting at Simpsons Gap, you'll make your way up Darken Drive and down the meandering Simpsons Gap path. It takes you through the stunning bushland of the Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park, and you get incredible views of the ranges throughout. You will continue down the Desert Park Reserve Path, which keeps giving those Alice Springs views; you'll get a closer view of the iconic Mt Gillen and the incredible ranges on one side of 'The Gap'. At the turn-around point, you'll make your way back the way you came, and this time, you'll know where every undulating hill lies.
You'll know you're on the tail end when you catch sight of Simpsons Gap again, and it will be full steam ahead down Darken Drive. The finish line awaits, which will be a happy sight with an Alice Springs Running Festival feel.
Australian Athletics recommends that participants running the marathon distance should be 18 and above.
